Cast stainless steel will last considerably longer, but also costs more. Repairs are not difficult and can be accomplished with minimal tools. Hint: you can extend the life of some cast iron burners by cleaning with a wire brush and clearing obstructions from the gas port holes with a straightened paper clip.
